25 Crore Promise, Repeated Check Bounces! Humayun Kabir Removed from the Presidency of Mohun Bagan Sporting
**Kolkata:** Humayun Kabir, the MLA from Naoda, had promised to provide 25 crore rupees in financial assistance to the financially troubled Mohun Bagan Sporting Club. Based on that promise, he was entrusted with the presidency of the club. However, due to repeated breaches of promise and consecutive check bounces, the executive committee of Mohun Bagan Sporting ultimately decided to remove him from the presidency.
On Thursday, the executive committee of the club held an emergency meeting. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that Humayun Kabir would be removed from the presidency. In his place, Gajal Zafar has been appointed as the new president.
According to club sources, Humayun Kabir had assured to resolve the long-standing financial crisis of Mohun Bagan upon taking office. He had mentioned not only settling the club's debts but also providing financial assistance of around 25 crore rupees. However, it is alleged that none of those promises were fulfilled in reality.
It is alleged that multiple checks signed by Humayun Kabir bounced consecutively. Not just once, but the checks bounced three times in a row, creating intense dissatisfaction among the club authorities. It has been reported that although checks worth approximately 1.5 crore rupees were given to the club, not a single penny has been deposited into the club's account.
Following this incident, a legal notice was sent to Humayun Kabir from the club last Monday. The notice mentioned that the money from the checks he provided has not been received and that the matter indicates dishonest intentions towards the club, which could also be considered a serious legal issue.
However, the club authorities claim that there has been no improvement in the situation even after sending the legal notice. Subsequently, a decision was made to call an emergency meeting. Although Humayun Kabir was invited to the meeting, he was not present.
Meanwhile, posters reading 'When will we get the money?' have also created a stir at the Mohun Bagan ground. The discontent among some members and supporters of the club has become even more apparent. Ultimately, the executive committee decided to remove Humayun Kabir from the presidency.
Club vice-president Wasim Akram stated that this decision has been made in accordance with the club's constitution. He said, “This incident will remain a dark chapter in the history of Mohun Bagan Sporting.”
However, even after the change of president, Mohun Bagan's financial crisis has not been resolved. The club still bears a huge burden of debt. The biggest challenge for the new leadership will be to extricate the club from that financial problem and build a stable financial structure for the future.
