Months of Construction Work Halted on the Bridge in Sitarampur, Demands for Administrative Intervention
**Kulati:** Devotees are facing severe hardships while going to worship at the Chandrachur Temple during the holy month of Shravan. Due to the prolonged halt of construction work on the bridge over the Garui River, local residents and pilgrims are currently crossing the river using a dangerous bamboo platform. The situation has worsened with the rising water levels in the river during the monsoon.
According to local sources, construction work for a bridge over the Garui River was initiated in the Vidai Ghar area adjacent to Sitarampur Loco in Ward 19 of Asansol Municipal Corporation for the convenience of public transportation. However, it is alleged by locals that the construction work was abruptly halted before the assembly elections.
Several months have passed since then, but the construction work for the bridge has not resumed. Incomplete pillars of the bridge are lying in the middle of the river. As a result, local residents and devotees going to the temple have to rely on the shaky bamboo platform to cross the river.
### Increased Risk of Accidents During Monsoon
During the month of Shravan, the crowd of devotees pouring water at the Chandrachur Temple increases. Many people travel this route to the temple every day. On the other hand, due to the monsoon, the water level in the Garui River has also risen.
In this situation, children, women, and the elderly are also risking their lives by crossing the river on the bamboo platform. Locals fear that even a slight carelessness or slipping from the platform could lead to a major accident.
### Demand for Immediate Resumption of Bridge Work
Due to the prolonged halt of the bridge construction work, anger is growing among local residents and pilgrims visiting the Chandrachur Temple. They demand that the incomplete bridge over the Garui River should be resumed quickly, keeping in mind the safety of the people.
Local residents and pilgrims have appealed to Minister Ajay Poddar, Agnimitra Pal, and the administration for immediate intervention. They claim that if a permanent bridge is constructed, the local people will be freed from this daily risky river crossing.
Now it remains to be seen when the administration will take action regarding the long-stalled bridge construction work and when the construction work will resume. Local residents are looking forward to whether a permanent solution to the problem will be found before the crowd of devotees increases during the month of Shravan.
