Drug Trade Flourishing Across District Borders! College Students Targeted, Key Kingpin of Syndicate Arrested by Police

Kanksa: Drugs were brought from Birbhum on bikes, crossing the Ajay river bridge into West Bardhaman. The drugs were then stored in a secret hideout, and supplied to West Bardhaman, East Bardhaman and several other districts. It is also alleged that students of several private colleges in Durgapur were also targeted by these drug traffickers. Finally, acting on a secret tip-off, police of Malandighi outpost under Kanksa police station exposed the inter-district drug trafficking syndicate. One of the key accused of the syndicate, Sharifuddin Sheikh alias 'Byang', has been arrested.

According to police sources, the syndicate was effectively using the border between the two districts as a drug trafficking corridor. Drugs were brought from Birbhum on bikes across the Ajay river bridge to West Bardhaman. They were then stored in a secret hideout in the Shibpur area of Bidbihar. From there, the drugs were distributed to various areas. Preliminary investigation suggests that the trade network had spread to several districts besides West Bardhaman and East Bardhaman.

The investigation has further revealed that drugs were allegedly sold to students of several private colleges in Durgapur. This has raised concerns that drugs may spread among students of educational institutions.

The arrested Sharifuddin Sheikh alias 'Byang' lives in the Kalinagar area of Durgapur-Faridpur. According to police sources, he has been allegedly involved in the drug trade for a long time. Preliminary investigation has found that he played an important role in procuring drugs, storing them in secret places and supplying them to various areas.

Police sources further said that village police of Malandighi outpost received a secret tip-off that the dealer had stored drugs in the Shibpur area of Bidbihar. Acting on this information, police carried out a raid led by Malandighi outpost in-charge Chandan Mishra. Sharifuddin Sheikh was arrested red-handed along with drugs.

The accused was later produced before the Asansol district court, seeking police custody. Police want to question the accused to find out how far the syndicate's roots extend, where in Birbhum the drugs were procured from, and which areas they were supplied to.

Investigators are also examining who else is involved in this trade and whether a larger network is behind delivering drugs to college students. It is believed that more important information about the inter-district drug trafficking syndicate may come to light after this arrest.
