Double Success of GRP in Malda: 10 kg of Cannabis Found in Train's AC Compartment Bathroom, 4 Arrested with 1.190 kg of Brown Sugar at Malda Court Station
**Malda:** The Malda Government Railway Police (GRP) achieved a significant success against drug trafficking. In two separate operations, the police recovered nearly **10 kg of cannabis** and **1 kg 190 grams of brown sugar**. A total of four individuals have been arrested in the incident. The arrested individuals were presented in the Malda District Court on Wednesday. The GRP has initiated an investigation into the entire incident.
According to GRP sources, the first incident occurred on the **Down Kanchanjungha Express**. Acting on a tip-off, GRP officials conducted a search in the air-conditioned reserved compartment after the train arrived at Malda station. During the operation, approximately **10 kg of cannabis** was recovered from the bathroom of the AC compartment.
In this incident, three women have been arrested. The names of the arrested are **Promila Devi**, **Ankita Devi**, and **Archana Devi**. It is reported that they hail from the Manihar and Kurshila areas of Katihar district in Bihar. Preliminary investigations suggest that there was an attempt to smuggle drugs using the bathroom of the train's AC compartment in a planned manner.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a youth was arrested with **1 kg 190 grams of brown sugar** during an operation in the vicinity of **Malda Court Railway Station**. The arrested individual is named **Rana Kumar**. He is from Madhubani district in Bihar. The police stated that he was waiting to board the train to Malda-Katihar. At that time, based on a tip-off, he was apprehended, and a large quantity of brown sugar was recovered during the search.
According to GRP sources, the four arrested individuals have been presented in the Malda District Court. Investigations are underway to determine where the recovered drugs were sourced from and where they were intended to be trafficked. Investigators are also looking into whether anyone else is involved in this network.
The police claim that surveillance has been intensified to curb drug trafficking via railways, and such operations will continue in the future.
