Tragic Train Accident in Baharampur: Train Hits School Bus, 5 Dead

Murshidabad, Correspondent: Five people lost their lives in a horrific train accident at a level crossing between Karnasubarna and Gobindpur stations in Murshidabad. Among the deceased, four were school students and one was a cyclist, according to administrative sources. Several others were injured in the incident. A shadow of mourning has descended over the area after the accident.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the level crossing gate was opened after a train passed. At that time, when a school bus attempted to cross the railway line, a train coming from the opposite direction collided with it violently. The impact of the collision severely damaged the bus.

The family of the injured driver has alleged that negligence in managing the gate led to this accident. Some local residents have also raised questions about the safety measures at the level crossing. However, the administration has stated that the veracity of these allegations will be verified through an investigation.

The railway authorities have already temporarily suspended the gatekeeper involved. Additionally, administrative action has been taken against another railway employee for negligence in duty. The railway and police administration have begun an investigation into the incident. The accused gatekeeper has been taken into custody for questioning, according to police sources.

Railway sources have reported that a passenger train hit the school bus while it was crossing the level crossing between Karnasubarna and Gobindpur stations. Several people died on the spot in the accident. Later, more fatalities occurred while receiving treatment in the hospital.

Following this tragic incident, the railway and state government have announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased. The railway has stated that the families of the deceased will receive 10 lakh rupees, and the state government will provide 5 lakh rupees per family as compensation.

The rules for managing the level crossing, signaling system, the process of opening and closing the gate, and the responsibilities of the involved personnel are being thoroughly examined.
