Sudden Surprise Visit of Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari to Watgach and Ekbalpur Police Stations, Inspecting Police Services
**Kolkata:** West Bengal Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari made an unexpected visit to the Watgach and Ekbalpur police stations in Kolkata without any prior announcement. He conducted this surprise visit without informing the top police officials in advance. The Chief Minister personally inspected the infrastructure of the police stations, the law and order situation, and the quality of police services for the general public.
According to sources, the Chief Minister first arrived at the Watgach police station and toured various departments of the station. He inquired in detail about the women’s help desk, the process of filing FIRs, the duties of the duty officer, and the daily administrative arrangements of the station. He also discussed with the present police personnel how complaints from the general public are received, how they are documented, and how quickly actions are taken based on the complaints.
The Chief Minister also separately reviewed the activities of the women’s police station located in the Watgach police station premises. He gathered information regarding the procedure for resolving women-related complaints, the security arrangements, and the quality of services.
During the visit, the Chief Minister placed special emphasis on the security arrangements of the police station. He personally checked whether the fire extinguishers at the station are in working condition, whether their expiry dates are regularly checked, and whether they are ready for use in emergencies.
He also collected detailed information from the present police officers regarding the total number of police personnel working at the station, how many are on round duty, the responsibilities of the duty officer, and how police services are managed during different shifts.
After inspecting the Watgach police station for about 15 minutes, the Chief Minister proceeded to the Ekbalpur police station. There too, he inspected the infrastructure of the police station, security arrangements, the process of receiving complaints, and the quality of public service police services. This sudden visit also resulted in noticeable activity among the police personnel at the stations.
According to some administrative sources, the main objective of the Chief Minister's surprise visit was to directly observe the real situation of the police stations and to review the assurance of prompt and transparent police services to the general public. There are indications that similar surprise visits may occur at various police stations in the state in the future.
