Tragic road accident in Bhatar, three killed while trying to save a goat

Once again National Highway 114 has turned bloody. Three people died in a head-on collision between a bike and a four-wheeler after the biker suddenly applied brakes to avoid hitting a goat. The incident took place on Tuesday in the area between Od and Jhana villages under Bhatar police station in East Burdwan.

According to local sources, a bike was moving from Od towards Jhana along National Highway 114. Suddenly a goat came into the middle of the road. To save the goat, the bike rider braked hard. At that very moment, a four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the bike.

The bike was crushed by the force of the impact. Three people fell on the road seriously injured. Hearing the sound of the accident, local residents rushed to the spot. Bhatar police station was informed. Police quickly reached the spot and, with help from locals, rescued the injured and took them to Guskara Primary Health Centre.

After initial treatment there, the condition of the three worsened, so they were shifted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. However, they could not be saved. Police sources said all three died either on the way to hospital or during treatment.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be known. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Police of Bhatar police station have detained the four-wheeler after the accident.

Traffic on the national highway was disrupted for some time due to the accident. Later police brought the situation under control. Locals allege that reckless driving on the national highway and free movement of cattle on the road are causing repeated accidents. The incident has again raised questions about safety on the national highway and control of cattle movement.
