**Murshidabad:** A major accident was narrowly avoided in the Banga block of Murshidabad. A woman and a man were swept away by the strong current while crossing the Mayurakshi River. Thanks to the prompt action of local boatmen, both were rescued quickly. The incident has caused a stir in the area.

According to local sources, the incident occurred at **Paanthupi-Sarbashi Ghat in the Banga block of Murshidabad district**. From early Thursday morning, the water level of the Mayurakshi River suddenly rose. The intensity of the current in the river also increased significantly. In that situation, while crossing the river, a woman and a man lost their balance and were swept away by the water.

Hearing the screams, local boatmen at the ghat quickly jumped into the river to begin the rescue operation. After a long effort, both were safely brought to the shore. Locals claim that if it weren't for the quick actions of the boatmen, a major loss of life could have occurred.

After the incident, panic spread in the area. During the monsoon season, the water level of the river rises rapidly, forcing ordinary people to take risks every day while crossing. Local residents complain that there are insufficient safety measures at the river ghat. Even when the water level rises, there is a lack of warning boards, barricades, or administrative oversight.

Residents of the area demand that strict safety measures for river crossing during the monsoon, regular administrative oversight, and necessary warning systems be implemented immediately to prevent such dangerous situations in the future.
