Malda's Cash and Cough Syrup Recovery Worth Crores: Malda Police and BSF Investigation Team Headed to South Dinajpur for Interrogation
**Malda:** The Malda district police have intensified their investigation into the recovery of cash worth crores, gold, and a large quantity of illegal cough syrup. A joint investigation team from Malda district police and BSF will head to South Dinajpur within the next two days for questioning the accused. At the same time, Malda's Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh has announced an increase in surveillance in various residential and rented flats in Malda district.
It is noteworthy that during a raid by South Dinajpur police in the Manglabari area of Malda police station on Sunday night, **approximately 2 crore 40 lakh 97 thousand 370 rupees in cash** and **20 grams of gold** were recovered. In the same operation, **approximately 9 thousand bottles of cough syrup** were seized from another warehouse, with an estimated market value of around **20 lakh rupees**.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the money stored in that flat was obtained through the smuggling of cough syrup from Bangladesh. So far, **three people have been arrested** from Malda in connection with this incident. According to investigators, this syndicate has been engaged in illegal smuggling for a long time using the border area.
Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh stated that a joint investigation team from Malda district police and BSF will soon go to South Dinajpur for further questioning of the accused and to gather information about the smuggling network. The investigation will also look into inter-district and cross-border communication aspects.
Meanwhile, following this incident, the police have started special surveillance on rented houses and accommodations in populous areas of Malda district, including **English Bazar** and **Old Malda**. The Superintendent of Police has urged landlords to verify the identity, necessary documents, and background of any person before renting out a property. He has also advised informing the relevant police station if necessary.
The police stated that since it is a border district between India and Bangladesh, anti-social and criminal syndicates may attempt to use rented houses. Therefore, special emphasis is being placed on verifying the identity of tenants with the cooperation of the general public.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the sources of the large amounts of cash, gold, and cough syrup, the extent of the smuggling network, and other individuals involved.
