Local Residents Demand Immediate Fire Control and Rehabilitation Amid Complaints of Breathing Difficulties and Eye Irritation Due to Smoke
**Jamuria:** The continuous emission of smoke from Koyari No. 2 of New Kenda OCP in the ECL's Kenda area has created panic in the surrounding areas for the past five days. After the rain stopped on Monday, a large amount of smoke was suddenly seen coming from that OCP area. Residents living near Koyari are now worried about the situation.
Locals have complained that they are having trouble breathing due to the smoke. Additionally, there have been reports of various physical problems including eye irritation. They claim that the amount of smoke increased further on Monday. As a result, hundreds of families in areas like No. 2 Kahar Para, Saldanga, and Kenda Bauri Para are living in fear.
Residents have expressed that it has become difficult to stay at home due to the continuous emission of smoke day after day. Moreover, they fear that if the situation is not controlled, a major accident could occur at any time.
Some locals are concerned that various gases may be released due to the fire in the coal. However, it is not possible to definitively say what kind of gas is present in the smoke and its level without testing. Locals believe that expert examination and an investigation by ECL are necessary regarding this matter.
Residents have complained that despite the situation persisting for the past few days, the ECL authorities have not taken the expected measures yet. As a result, there is growing resentment among the locals.
Residents demand that the source of the smoke be identified by quickly inspecting the incident site and necessary measures be taken to control the fire. Additionally, they insist on ensuring the safety of the affected residents and arranging for their rehabilitation if needed.
Local residents Ramkrishna Bauri, Prashant Ghosh, and Baban Bauri claim that if a permanent solution to the problem is not found quickly, the situation may worsen in the coming days.
