Seventh Pay Commission to Submit Report in 6 Months, When Will Salaries Increase? Know the State Government's Plan
**Kolkata:** The state government has made a major announcement for state government employees. After the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), the **Seventh Pay Commission** has now been officially constituted. This decision by the government has rekindled hope among millions of state government employees and pensioners. The finance department has already published a notification for the formation of the commission.
Earlier, Chief Minister **Shuvendu Adhikari** had stated that the government is moving forward with the goal of implementing the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission within the current financial year. The formation of this commission is an important step towards achieving that goal.
## Four-Member High-Level Expert Committee
The Governor **R N Ravi** has approved the formation of the commission. The commission consists of a four-member expert committee.
The committee members are—
* **Chairman:** Retired IAS **Atanu Chakraborty**, former Secretary of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
* **Member:** Dr. **Partha Mukhopadhyay**, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Policy Research.
* **Member:** Dr. **Partha Pratim Pal**, Professor of Economics at IIM Kolkata.
* **Member-Secretary:** IAS **Debi Prasad Karanam**, Secretary of the Finance Department, Government of West Bengal.
## What Issues Will the Commission Review?
According to the government notification, the commission will review the current **salary structure, Dearness Allowance (DA), various special allowances, travel allowances, promotion policies, pensions, and other financial benefits** for state government employees in detail.
Additionally, the commission will be responsible for—
* Reviewing the salary structure of government employees, board, and corporation staff.
* Recommending necessary changes after examining the current salaries and allowances.
* Proposing measures to improve work-life balance.
* Recommending methods for determining the initial salaries of employees in the new salary structure.
* Providing opinions on the process of pension revision for pensioners.
## Report to be Submitted Within Six Months
The government has directed the commission to submit the **final report within six months**. While preparing the recommendations, the commission can also consider the **salary structure of the central government, recommendations of pay commissions from other states, the financial capacity of the state, income-expenditure situation, and the recommendations of the Eighth Central Pay Commission**.
## When Can the Increased Salary Be Effective?
The commission has now been formed and is expected to submit the report within the next **six months**. After that, if the state government reviews and approves the commission's recommendations, the new salary structure will come into effect. Therefore, **when the increased salary will be effective will depend on the commission's report and the government's final decision.** Although the government aims to implement the new salary structure within the current financial year, the official implementation schedule has not yet been announced.
Government employees are now looking forward to the commission's recommendations and the government's subsequent decisions.
